James Extra Matt forms a transparent, removable protective layer on moisture-resistant hard floors. cThis layer helps to protect the floor from dirt, scratches and superficial damage. As a result, signs of wear appear in the protective layer rather than directly in the floor itself, making them easier to repair later on.
The protective coating makes the floor stain-resistant and gives it an extra matt finish. This makes James Extra Matt ideal for modern matt floors, or for floors that you want to give a deliberately matt finish. To ensure good adhesion, always apply the product to a thoroughly cleaned, dry floor.
Use James Extra Matt if you want to give your hard floor extra protection whilst maintaining or creating a very matt finish. This can be done immediately after laying a new floor, whilst the room is still empty and you can treat the floor as effectively as possible.
James Extra Matt can also be a good choice for an existing floor with minor scratches, superficial damage or early signs of wear. The protective coating helps to withstand everyday use and makes maintenance easier. Always clean the floor thoroughly beforehand using James Basic Cleaner, to ensure that dirt, old coatings and cleaning product residues are removed before you apply the new protective coating.

When should you use James Extra Matt?
When should you use James Extra Matt? This product fits well into a maintenance routine where you first clean the floor with James Basic Cleaner, then protect it with James Extra Matt, and finally carry out daily maintenance with James Floor Cleaner Clean & Quick dry.
This product is particularly suitable for floors where an extra-matt finish is required. If you’d prefer a slightly less matt finish, James Semi Gloss would probably be a better choice. We do not recommend James Extra Matt for uniformly dark floors.

How do you use James Extra Matt?
First, clean the floor thoroughly with James Basic Cleaner. Then rinse thoroughly twice with clean water and leave the floor to dry completely. Pour James Extra Matt undiluted into a bucket and apply the product thinly and evenly using a clean, absorbent, lint-free cotton cloth or wax applicator.
Do not apply James Extra Matt directly from the bottle onto the floor to prevent staining. Leave the first coat to dry for at least 4 hours, then apply a second coat at right angles to the first. Floors subject to heavy wear can be treated two or three times. One litre is sufficient for approximately 20 m² per coat.

When can I put weight on the floor again after it has been laid?
The floor can bear weight again after about 12 hours. Do not put furniture back in place until the coating has set properly, and lift the furniture rather than dragging it. The protective coating will have fully cured after about 5 days.
Can I use James Extra Matt on a floor with underfloor heating?
Yes, that’s usually possible. Do make sure to switch off the underfloor heating in good time before applying James Extra Matt. This prevents the product from drying out too quickly and being applied unevenly.
What should I do if the floor looks streaky after application?
Allow the floor to dry completely first, then assess the result. Streaks are often caused by applying the paint too thickly, overlapping strokes, draughts, direct sunlight or a surface that was not clean enough. If necessary, you can remove the coating using James Basic Cleaner and reapply it.
Can I reapply James Extra Matt at a later date?
Yes, that’s possible. First, clean the floor thoroughly again using James Basic Cleaner, rinse well with clean water and leave the floor to dry completely. You can then apply a new coat of James Extra Matt.
What should I bear in mind when applying it?
Ensure there is adequate ventilation, but avoid draughts and direct sunlight. It is best to work at room temperature and with low humidity. You should also avoid foam forming in the cloth or detergent dispenser, as this can affect the end result.
